The act of taking a photograph is seemingly universal. It’s estimated that 1.72 trillion photos were taken worldwide in 2023 and that by 2026, that number will be close to 2 trillion.

Everybody’s taking photos, and there are some damn fine Substack photographers and publications that focus on photography, no pun intended. Let’s have a little fun this week and point out some recent photography joys.
Solar Eclipse
I’ve lived through a few solar eclipses but have not really been in the position to take photos. But this post from @AndyAdams collects photos from 23 photographers and how they captured the eclipse on April 8.
On Working with Kathy Ryan at the New York Times

Dina is a Ukrainian-born photographer who has lived inNew York City since1991, and is a regular contributor to NYT Mag, New Yorker and New York Magazine.
The Court Jewels
@courtjeweller shares several images from a century of photographs from royal jewels at Buckingham Palace. The images are on display at a summer exhibition, Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography, at The King’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace in London.
I’m not much of a royal watcher, but there are some lovely historic photos in this collection and her post.
